Material selection:

1.Load matching

The load-bearing capacity of the rubber-coated wheel must strictly match the maximum lifting capacity of the gantry crane. Based on industry practice, polyurethane-coated wheels are recommended for 3-5 ton gantry cranes. These wheels can carry up to 2-4 tons per wheel and have a Shore hardness of 80A-95A, which can withstand the impact loads of frequent movement. For heavy-duty equipment over 5 tons, a cast steel wheel core with thickened polyurethane coating (thickness ≥ 15 mm) is required.

2.Material Properties Comparison
Polyurethane wheels: They offer 3-5 times the wear resistance of rubber and a tear strength of 73-120 kN/m, making them suitable for rough concrete or steel floors. Their 50%-55% resilience absorbs 80% of impact force, reducing equipment vibration and making them particularly suitable for sensitive surfaces like epoxy flooring.
Rubber wheels: They are low-cost (approximately 60% of polyurethane) and offer significant cushioning and noise reduction. However, their load capacity is limited (typically ≤1.5 tons/wheel) and they tend to leave marks on smooth surfaces. Natural rubber wheels are recommended for environments requiring quiet operation (such as laboratories), but they require regular inspection for wear.

3.Environmental Compatibility
Oil and Stain Resistance: Polyurethane materials offer excellent resistance to hydraulic and lubricating oils, making them suitable for oily environments like automotive production lines.
Temperature Range: Conventional polyurethane wheels are suitable for use in high-temperature paint shops between -40°C and 120°C. Custom high-temperature formulations are available for use in high-temperature paint shops (e.g., Stdoujoy-HD material for circular wheels, which is resistant to 200°C).
Anti-Static: For food processing or dusty environments, it is recommended to select polyurethane wheels with a surface resistivity of 10⁶-10⁹Ω to minimize the risk of static ignition.
